CAPEL CELYN !

Question: Why Capel Celyn?

Answer: Capel Celyn was the village in the Tryweryn Valley which was drowned in order to provide water for industry in Liverpool.

Question: Why did the people of Cymru stand by and let this happen?

Answer: The people of Cymru did not just stand idly by , but tried to use English Law to safeguard the land and it's community.

Question: What was the result of their actions?

Answer: The Westminster parliament arrogantly and arbitrarily passed a Bill allowing Liverpool Corporation to do whatever it wished with land in the Tryweryn Valley, contrary to the wishes of the population of Cymru (The London government showed it's contempt of Cymru and her people again in the case of Clywedog!)

The inhabitants were then turfed out of their homes, against their will thus shattering the community , the valley was then drowned destroying unique (and beautiful) countryside.

The lake formed by the dammed valley is now infamous in the history of Cymru -

it is now known as Llyn Celyn.

UNFORTUNATELY CAPEL CELYN WAS NOT THE FIRST, NOR THE LAST EXAMPLE OF THE DESTRUCTIVE ACTIONS THE LONDON PARLIAMENT HAS IMPOSED ON CYMRU, THERE ARE PLANS DRAWN UP TO CREATE THE LARGEST DAM IN EUROPE AT CRAIG GOCH IN THE ELAN VALLEY.

IT WILL NOT BE PROVIDING WATER FOR CYMRU!

Question: What can I do?

Answer: Write to you local and national newspapers, highlighting the destruction of our country , pointing out that this form of industrialisation does not profit Cymru, rather these developments benefit the populace of England (in the form of low water bills) and also generate profit for the directors and shareholders of the water companies concerned.

Write to your local councillor and planning department, Assembly Member, Member of Parliament and Member of European Parliament when these issues appear. Let them know that you are opposed to the industrialisation of our beautiful countryside, and the effects on tourism it will have.

REMEMBER - each letter must be individually signed and sent - ONE letter from a group of people of like mind, and signed by them is counted as ONE objection - it is ONLY individual letters that are counted!

You must not allow the politicians off the hook, Demand a Public Inquiry they are responsible to the public - they must answer.

The more adventurous could also join the Welsh Republican Movement.

We advocate non violence to achieve our aim.
